EAGLE-eyed regulars along Shaw Rd and Kedron Brook bike path, Wavell Heights, would have noticed the major works going on near the Kedron Brook bridge, and possibly wondered what was going on.

Queensland Urban Utilities has confirmed the work is part of its ongoing maintenance and upgrade program of its sewerage.

“Our Creeks and Waterway Crossings program involves maintenance and protection work on sewerage infrastructure in the vicinity of watercourses,” a spokesperson said. “Works carried out as part of this program include the replacement of sewer pipes to extend their operational life,” he said.

As part of this program, in the 2013-14 financial year Queensland Urban Utilities is carrying out work at 14 locations in Brisbane, including Mansfield, Acacia Ridge, Wavell Heights, Aspley, Morningside, Chermside, Coorparoo, Mitchelton, Bardon and Willawong. The majority of the work will occur in bushland or parkland.

“This work on Shaw Rd, Wavell Heights, commenced in late November, however, high flows in Kedron Brook and the need to keep the site dry and safe, has delayed completion. Completion now is scheduled for the third week of March, 2014,” he said.
