Kedron Wavell Wolves versus St Andrews in the Brisbane Women’s Hockey Association division 1 2014 season opener.KEDRON-WAVELL clawed back a 2-0 half-time deficit with two unanswered second-half goals in their opening Brisbane Women’s Hockey Association division 1 clash against St Andrews at the State Hockey Centre, Colmslie, on Saturday.

The Wolves had their chance to grab a come-from-behind win after the hooter, but were unable to convert their penalty corner into a goal, coach Nikki Taylor said.

She said it was a typically fast and physical clash with the Saints.

“There were lots of contests all over the park.”

New signing Britt Noffke and Jasmine Larosa (pictured) scored for Kedron Wavell, and Taylor said Alyssa Kerr was strong as usual and new goalie Audrey Smith notched several crucial saves.

The coach said improvements were needed in corner play, double-teaming in defence, and in quickening the ball movement.

Renae Holmes and Kathryn Flood scored for St Andrews.

The Wolves next challenge is Ascot at Mary Nairn Fields, Redcliffe, at 3.30pm on Saturday, on March 22.
